Kanon
Every scale in any equal tuning: an atlas of musical scales from 12 to 72 notes per octave, and 13 steps of the tritave (Bohlen–Pierce).
What it is
Kanon is a free, open-source web app. It lists the scales of an equal tuning, groups them into families and modes, and shows what they are built from: symmetry, a portrait on the circle, the steps in cents, and how they sound. In 12 notes there are 2,036 scales of three notes or more, in 344 families.
- Families, modes and symmetry, with the count of notes, modes, symmetry and transpositions (N/M/S/T).
- Tunings from 12 to 72 notes per octave, with the intervals in cents.
- Maqam, makam, dastgah and echos entries, each with its cited sources.
- Sound in the browser, and tuning export (Scala .scl and .kbm, MIDI Tuning Standard).
- Works offline once opened.
